A dirty car can get in the way of you really being able to enjoy it. It can even be therapeutic for some to do and have sort of a calming effect to it. Washing a car is a pretty simple task but if you are a car lover like me, you can actually cause some damage to your car if you don’t do it the right way.
If you are anything like me, you pay close attention to detail. I can see just about anything on a car and can spot a flaw a mile away.
The way that you wash your car also affects the way that the finish of your car is maintained over time.
As a car enthusiast, it is easy to spot flaws right away and become eager to fix them if possible.
There are lots of people who drive around with their cars being dirty and sometimes leave the leave lots of dirty buildup on their cars for days and sometimes even weeks at a time.
The unfortunate thing is that when dirt and other things build up you risk damaging your car because of the makeup of the wax on the car.
When you leave this kind of dirt on your car for too long it can cause the wax on your car and cause damage. Also, when you attempt to clean your car it will damage your car so much that you will need to sand your car again as well repaint it.
If you want to do your best to keep the finish on your car doing well the best thing to do is to wash your car weekly. Acid rain has chemicals that damage the paint and the finish to your car. This kind of damage is irreversible and you will need to repair it in order for it to its optimal level. This kind of rain is a paint killer especially if you don’t clean your car right after.
If you live in a place where you get acid rain often the best thing to do is to rinse your car after it is in the rain. If you have a garage then you can park your car in your garage so that you car doesn’t keep getting pounded by the acid rain.
The products that you use on your car can damage your car if you aren’t aware of what can damage your car. If you use harsh chemicals like household soap and detergents then you are stripping the wax and the paint from your car.
It is important that you only use products that are made for washing your car. You can buy car wax and soap at your local store.
The cloth that you use has to be a cloth that is non-abrasive so that it doesn’t scratch the paint on your car and cause damage to it.
You will want to use a separate cloth for cleaning the wheels of your car because this kind of dirt accumulation can again damage the paint of your car. Use a different kind of cleaner for the wheels as this kind of dirt builds up and can cause damage to the clear coat paint on your vehicle.
The cleaner that you use for your wheels will need to be different because it needs to be a bit harsher than the cleaner for the rest of your car. Inspect bottles and make sure that you check the bottle to see if the cleaner is meant for wheels.
Wash your car when the body of your car is not hot. This will help to avoid water spots on your car because water tends to dry much faster when the car is hot or when the weather is hot.
Don’t wash your car in circles but instead, use the gentle sponge to work the soap and water in a horizontal or a verticle pattern. If you drop the sponge on the ground make sure that you rinse it out really well because you will pick up dirt particles that can possibly scratch the paint of your car. When you wash your car in circles, there is a chance that there will be circle marks on your car.
Use two different buckets to clean your car. One bucket for soap and water and one bucket for rinsing off because this will ensure that you don’t pick up any dirt or debris from the soapy water and transfer it to your rinsing water.
Once it is time for your car to dry, never let your car air dry. Watermarks and minerals will be left on your car that will not only make it look bad but will cause damage to the paint on your car. When you dry it off, choose a dry towel that can use that is not abrasive. You can use a synthetic or a natural towel.
If you blot the car with the towel this is a better choice than dragging the towel over the car because you don’t want to mess up the integrity of the paint on your car. Also, you will probably need to use a few towels to get the job done.
You can also choose to use a soft squeegee tool to dry your car off if you want to increase drying time.
